Rothfus Calls for Reform of Washington Spending

Date: Sept. 26, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Keith Rothfus (PA-12) issued the following statement after opposing the House-passed Fiscal Year 2019 Department of Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Act and Continuing Appropriations Act, H.R. 6157:

"When I first ran for Congress, the national debt stood at $12 trillion. Eight years later it exceeds $20 trillion," said Congressman Rothfus. "Today's legislation continues to kick difficult decisions down the road. It also passes the tab to our children and grandchildren. While there are many laudable expenditures in today's legislation, which I have previously supported in separate legislation, Congress could have done a better job of prioritizing what is immediately necessary and what can await future funding. Making sure we prioritize spending will better ensure we have the resources needed to defend our country and to meet the commitments we have made to veterans, seniors and vulnerable populations. Today's bill is yet another product of a legislative process in serious need of reform."
