Location: Manchester, NH

This morning, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) joined US Senator Maggie Hassan, health care providers, and advocates at the Manchester Community Health Center to kick off the 2019 ACA open enrollment period for marketplace health plans. Shea-Porter discussed the importance of health insurance, and she encouraged Granite Staters to visit healthcare.gov to shop for insurance plans and compare options.

"When I ran a social services agency before Democrats passed the Affordable Care Act, I used to have to tell clients that we couldn't help them with some of their conditions because they didn't have health insurance," said Shea-Porter. "It was heartbreaking, and many Americans were suffering because they didn't have insurance. The Affordable Care Act has changed people's lives for the better. Health insurance has meant that more Americans can lead happy and healthier lives without the fear of bankruptcy or choosing between necessary expenses like food or rent and medical care if they get sick. In New Hampshire, most people will be able to sign up for a plan that costs $75 -- $100. I encourage everyone to visit healthcare.gov even if they have insurance to see what's available, because they may find a better plan than their current one."

Granite Staters who need assistance or have questions about plan options should visit localhelp.healthcare.gov.
