From day one in the legislature, I have always kept an eye out for wasteful spending practices in state government. Like you, I absolutely hate seeing my tax dollars mismanaged.
As your state representative, I have lead efforts to make state government more accountable and more transparent. I have continued to make certain our budget is balanced, without raising taxes to get the job done. I will continue to demand fiscal responsibility in every aspect of state government. I will ensure your tax dollars -- and mine -- are used wisely and to the benefit of every deserving Iowan.
The current mismanagement of our taxpayer dollars is not a partisan issue. There is plenty of blame to go around. I've always been against borrowing money on the state's "credit card", especially when our economy is expanding. We have over-extended our use of corporate tax credits to the point where we are giving away more money than we take in from our primary revenue sources. This simply doesn't work, and we must put a stop to it. I'll continue to do my part to see to it that our budget is balanced, that our tax structure is fair and equitable, and that Iowa's transportation infrastructure, K-12 education, healthcare, mental health services, and so many more important things are funded at an appropriate level.
