We have severe infrastructure needs which pose a safety hazard, as well as a detriment to attracting businesses to our state.
I strongly oppose any proposal to use General Obligation Bonds to cover these costs, as it adds a tremendous amount of debt and severely reduces our ability to bond for school construction, community care facilities, among others . We must work to find a way to fund transportation without further burdening our taxpayers.
I will not support tolls if the overall burden to the tax payer is greater than what we face now.
While I do not support the Governor's $10M executive order, we must consider reducing or eliminating the gas tax, increasing municipal aid to allow towns to eliminate the car tax, and instituting a straight tax credit for CT residents and small businesses. We must also consider the negative effects of bonding such an extreme amount - and the dangers of inaction - before we make any decisions.
Bottom line: until we have clear data on these points, which at this point we do not, the only reasonable and educated response would be the need to gather more information.
