I share the frustration that we often battle congested roads and highways in parts of Howard and Carroll Counties. Living in the 9th District since 1977, I could have never imagined it would grow so much and so quickly. As we welcome new neighbors into our growing communities, we should expect new development brings better, safer roads just as quickly.
We are finally moving forward with the widening of Maryland Route 32, a necessary project not only for the safety of who live in District 9 and depend on Route 32, but also for economic development projects in Southern Carroll County, such as the Warfield Complex. I have also advocated for improvements to other state roads in our district, such as Maryland Route 99, Maryland Route 103, Interstate 70, and Main Street in Sykesville. I strongly opposed the attempt by the majority party to threaten the progress that we have been making on addressing our highway needs, and proudly voted to repeal the "Road Kill Bill."
Annapolis needs to continue to be held accountable for transportation money actually going to make our roads safer. I am proud to have sponsored legislation that would ensure our transportation revenue cannot be repurposed. Maryland has never adequately funded the two major metropolitan transit systems and I deeply believe that cheap and effective mass transit is important to a thriving society.
