Shea-Porter Statement on President Trump's Firing of Attorney General Sessions

Statement

Date: Nov. 7, 2018
Location: Dover, NH

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) today released the following after President Trump fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions:

"Jeff Sessions created horrendous policies that have hurt children and families across our country. He has been a terrible Attorney General, but that is not why he was fired. I am deeply concerned that President Trump is again trying to interfere in the Mueller investigation. There is no way, given Matthew Whitaker's past statements, that he can instill confidence that the rule of law will be upheld and that the Mueller investigation will be allowed to proceed without interference from the White House. Whitaker must recuse himself from any role in the Special Counsel Investigation. Republicans in Congress must join with Democrats and support legislation that protects this investigation and the rule of law."
