Hastings' Statement on Affordable Care Act Ruling

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement after a U.S. District Judge in Texas struck down the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as unconstitutional:

"Friday's absurd court ruling follows more than 70 failed attempts by Congressional Republicans to dismantle the ACA and two U.S. Supreme Court rulings upholding the law. The American people sent a strong signal to Republicans last November that their relentless attacks on the ACA will not be tolerated. Dismantling life-saving protections that will help children, seniors, and those with pre-existing conditions is not in our country's best interest.

"Having been defeated time and time again in Congress, President Trump and the Republican Party are now attempting to use the courts to overturn the law. I predict they will fail.

"I will continue to work with my colleagues in the 116th Congress to ensure that affordable healthcare is within reach for all. We owe it to all Americans to ensure that healthcare is affordable, accessible, and comprehensive. I call on my Republican colleagues to reverse their attacks on those who are most vulnerable and join the Democrats in strengthening healthcare all across our nation."
