Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement marking the 46th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision:

"For the past 46 years, Roe v. Wade has protected the right of women in America to make their own healthcare decisions. It has ushered in a new era of safer, more accessible healthcare options and empowered a generation of women to make their own choices.

"Today, Roe continues to be under attack. More than 400 laws have been passed in states across the country aimed at intimidating women and restricting access to abortion and other essential health services. Too often, these dangerous restrictions disproportionately effect low-income people, people of color, immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, and youth. Women all across this nation must have access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare services, just as every person should be able to live, work, and make decisions about their health and future with dignity, equality, and economic security.

"It is time for the 116th Congress to end these attacks on women's reproductive rights. We must ensure that all people, regardless of their income or how they are insured, can access affordable healthcare and exercise their constitutional rights. I remain steadfast in my commitment to eliminate federal restrictions on abortion and fight for reproductive freedom, dignity, and equality in Congress."
