Cheney: It's Our Moral Obligation to do Everything We Can to Protect the Sanctity of Life

Congresswoman Liz Cheney released the following statement on the introduction of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

"It's our moral obligation to do everything we can to protect the sanctity of life. We must fight every day for the most vulnerable among us, which is why I joined my Republican colleagues in the House to introduce the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This is common sense legislation that protects the life of innocent babies and their mothers.

"In recent weeks, we have seen Democrats introduce legislation across the country that enables the killing of babies. These far-left, extreme policies are evil and Democrat leaders in the House have remained silent while members of their party, including the Governor of Virginia, have advocated for what can only be described as the murder of innocent babies. We cannot allow the radical wing of the Democratic Party to turn our maternity wards into killing fields. I will continue to work with House Republicans and President Trump to end the Democrats' horrific, extremist agenda and will always fight to protect innocent human life."

Background:

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act ensures any child born alive during an abortion procedure receives the same degree of professional care to save his or her life that any other child born alive at the same gestational age would receive.
Mandates abortion survivors must be immediately admitted to a hospital and allows the mothers to file civil action against health care practitioners who violate the provisions of this bill.
Establishes criminal penalties for by punishing those who harm babies born alive, let them die, or attempt to harvest body parts.
Subjects individuals who commit overt acts to kill a child born alive to criminal prosecution for murder.
Prohibits mothers from being subject to prosecution or penalty under this bill.
Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) recently blocked similar legislation offered in the Senate by Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) from passing under unanimous consent.
