Congressman Carson Statement Celebrating Black History Month

Statement

Date: Feb. 1, 2019
Location: Indianapolis, IN

Today, Congressman Carson issued the following statement celebrating the start of Black History Month.

"Each year, Black History Month presents a unique opportunity for us to celebrate the rich heritage and expansive contributions African Americans have made to our country. This year, as we commemorate 400 years since the first Africans arrived in the American colonies, I encourage all Hoosiers to take time to explore African American history.

"From the self made success of Madame C.J. Walker to our peaceful example following the death of Dr. King to our city's first African American in Congress, Congresswoman Julia Carson, Indianapolis has played a major part in the African American history of our nation. This month, we should all remember that African American history is American history. All Americans should recommit to equal civil, social, and economic justice for all people."
