Crist Heralds Passage of 'for the People' Act

Date: March 8, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Charlie Crist (D-St. Petersburg) announced passage this morning of the 'For the People' Act through the House of Representatives. The sweeping campaign finance, voter protection, and ethics reform measure passed 234-193.

"I could not be more proud of the new House Majority for passing the For the People Act. This bill delivers on the promise to restore American democracy to the American people -- and not the moneyed special interests," Rep. Crist said. "Floridians are ahead of the curve on many of these provisions including ex-offender voting rights restoration, fair districts, transparency, and Souls to the Polls - which my amendment would guarantee as federal law. I can confidently say that with passage of H.R.1, this is officially the "People's House.'"

Together with Congressman Anthony Brown, Congressman Crist introduced an amendment to H.R.1 that would protect 'Souls to the Polls' voter engagement efforts and help prevent attempts of voter disenfranchisement. The amendment was successfully adopted March 7th, 2019. For more information on this amendment, watch Congressman Crist's floor speech here.
