Rep. Ami Bera (D-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations and Co-Chair of Congressional Caucus on Korea, released the following statement on yesterday's meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea's Kim Jong Un.

"For a successful denuclearization deal to take place, it's important that other regional countries like Russia, China, and Japan be engaged in the process." said Rep. Bera. "At the same time, it will require the US to reassert itself in talks to regain the momentum that was lost at the Hanoi summit between President Trump and Kim. It's also incumbent that we continue to work closely with our allies and counterparts to ensure lasting peace and security on the Korea Peninsula."

Rep. Bera returned last week from a bipartisan delegation trip to South Korea. Bera met with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-what, Defense Minister Jeong Kyeongdoo, the Speaker and Members of the National Assembly, US Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Harry Harris. They discussed the foreign policy, security, and trade issues facing the Korean Peninsula and the broader region.
