Today, U.S. Representative Rob Woodall issued the following statement after President Moon Jae-in arrived in Washington, D.C., to meet with President Donald Trump.
"On behalf of Georgia's Seventh Congressional District, I would like to welcome President Moon to the United States. South Korea continues to be one of our most valuable and trusted partners, especially as we seek peace on the Korean Peninsula. It is essential that our two countries remain united in our efforts, and I applaud both Presidents' leadership in the pursuit of a denuclearized Korean Peninsula. Koreans and Americans alike are invested in negotiations moving forward."
Representative Woodall, a member of the Congressional Korea Caucus, has been a staunch and vocal ally for the Korean American community. At the beginning of the 116th Congress, Representative Woodall co-sponsored a resolution that celebrated Korean American Day; in mid-February, Congressman Woodall sat down with the Korean National Assembly and discussed how the United States can improve its relationship with the Korean Peninsula; at the beginning of March, Congressman Woodall introduced a resolution commemorating the 100th anniversary of the March First Movement as well as bipartisan legislation aimed at reuniting Korean Americans with their relatives in North Korea and bolstering trade between the United States and South Korea.
