Sean Duffy Secures Disaster Relief Extension for Houses of Worship in Puerto Rico

Statement

Date: April 11, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy, Ranking Member of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing & Insurance, and author of PROMESA, today released the following statement on FEMA's announcement that Private Non-Profit Houses of Worship are eligible for disaster relief in Puerto Rico through March 17, 2019:

"I am pleased that FEMA has honored my request for an extension for private non-profit houses of worship to submit Requests for Public Assistance through May 17, 2019. In the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, churches of all denominations in Puerto Rico stepped up to the plate to assist with the recovery and rebuilding efforts. Their dedication to feeding the hungry and providing refuge to those who lost everything resulted in many private non-profit houses of worship having inadequate time or staff support to complete, or even begin, the request for public assistance process."
