Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Agreement to Lift U.S. Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum from Canada and Mexico
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus and Member of the Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee, released the following statement after the Trump Administration announced an agreement to remove the tariffs on steel and aluminum from Canada and Mexico:
"The President is right to confront unfair trade practices in the steel and aluminum industry, but should do so collectively with our allies, not with a go-it-alone approach. I am pleased that the President has lifted tariffs on Canada and Mexico and reversed his irrational determination that our allies were a national security threat. These tariffs ultimately hurt the U.S. as we try to address China's many unfair trade practices and weakened our relationship with key allies. The lifting of these tariffs will mean much needed relief for farmers and manufacturers in Michigan who have suffered as a result of the President's trade policies."
