Lowey, Schneider, Engel, Deutch, Gottheimer Statement on Rocket Attacks on Israel

Statement

Today, U.S. Representatives Brad Schneider (D-IL); Eliot Engel (D-NY), Chairman, House Foreign Affairs Committee; Nita Lowey (D-NY), Chairwoman, House Appropriations Committee, Ted Deutch (D-FL), Chairman, House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East, North Africa and International Terrorism; and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) released the following statement:

"We strongly condemn the outrageous, indiscriminate rocket attacks from terror groups in Gaza into Israel, which have claimed the lives of four Israelis, wounded many more, and put at risk hundreds of thousands of others.

"In response to the continued, indefensible attacks by Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other terror groups, Israel has a right and responsibility to defend itself and its citizens militarily from further violence. Israel must be able to sustainably protect its people as it continues to pursue a ceasefire.

"We are also thankful for the Iron Dome defense system that intercepted dozens of the more than 700 rockets fired from Gaza, helping avert further death and destruction. We continue to support cooperation between our two nations on this important tool for regional security."
