Rep. Woodall Urges Democratic Leadership to Take Up Serious Bipartisan Immigration Solutions

Statement

Today, on a largely party line vote, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6, the Democratic Leadership's immigration bill. The bill failed to include any meaningful language to address the current crisis at the border, assist those trying to enter the U.S. legally, or offer any protections for those who are lawfully present in the U.S. or standing patiently in line overseas.

"If you would like to see something become law, you must work across the aisle to find bipartisan solutions. This bill did none of that. However, if you want to pass a bill that will simply generate media coverage, follow Speaker Pelosi's playbook," said Congressman Woodall. "It is irresponsible to continue to ignore the crisis at the southern border and thus create another generation caught up in the very same legal limbo facing DACA recipients. We had two bills last Congress that would have solved problems for DACA and the border, but no Democrats wanted to support them. We have dozens of bipartisan bills now that we could put on the floor, that would pass, and that would be signed by the President, but Speaker Pelosi has chosen to move partisan messaging bills instead. Our actions here in this chamber speak louder than words. Today's vote was a missed opportunity for this Congress do something meaningful on immigration reform that would positively impact millions."
