Costa Calls for Action on Gun Violence, Condemns Racism

Statement

Date: Aug. 5, 2019
Location: Fresno, CA

Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16) released the following statement in response to shootings this weekend in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio that took the lives of 31 people and injured more than 50 others:

"Enough is enough. How many more lives must be lost before the senate takes action? Thoughts and prayers are good, but they are not enough," said Costa. "Earlier this year, I voted in the House to pass common-sense gun legislation that would help protect lives and it's been sitting on Mitch McConnel's desk for months. But more needs to be done. When will the Senate and the President do their jobs and work to protect the American people? Racism has no place in our country, and we must do everything possible to address its causes."
