Gov. Justice addresses Charleston Catholic High School students during Catholic Schools Week in West Virginia

Statement

Gov. Jim Justice visited Charleston Catholic High School today, speaking to students as part of Catholic Schools Week in West Virginia.

"I congratulate you, in every way, on all that you've done and for all the great things that Catholic schools are doing for us," Gov. Justice said. "It's amazing what you all are doing for us every single day."

As part of national efforts to recognize to recognize the vital contributions of the thousands of Catholic schools across the country, Gov. Justice also issued a proclamation, officially declaring Jan. 26 through Feb. 1, 2020 as Catholic Schools Week in West Virginia.

West Virginia has more than 4,600 students enrolled in Catholic elementary or secondary schools. The graduation rate for West Virginia Catholic high school students is over 99 percent, with nearly 98% of the graduates going on to pursue higher levels of education.

"Everything in my life happened because God wanted it to," Gov. Justice said. "He is present in my life every day and He's present in your life every day. He knows exactly what He wants you to do. Now, He expects you to work at it to get to where you want to go, but that's exactly what you're learning how to do in your great school."​

Earlier this week, First Lady Cathy Justice also commemorated Catholic Schools Week with a visit to greet students at Our Lady of Fatima Parish School​ in Huntington.
