Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement after the passing of former United Auto Workers (UAW) President Owen Bieber:
"Owen Bieber was an exceptional leader who always put the American worker first. Throughout his tenure as UAW President, Owen fought for workers' rights, fair wages and good health care benefits for all workers, not just those in the union. Despite an ever-changing automotive industry, Owen worked to create and protect American manufacturing jobs, which are critical for Michigan's economy. Owen dedicated his life to making sure that workers have the ability to organize and collectively bargain for higher wages, good benefits and safe working conditions. Jennifer and I extend our condolences to the Bieber family and the hardworking men and women of the UAW during this difficult time."
