Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), released the following statement on the Senate confirmation of Katherine Lemos to be a member and chairperson of the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board. The Senate confirmed Lemos by unanimous consent.

"Katherine Lemos will do an excellent job as chair of the Chemical Safety Board," said Barrasso. "The board plays an important role of investigating industrial chemical accidents. It was critical the Senate confirm Dr. Lemos to provide a working quorum to the board and so the agency can fulfill its mission. I look forward to considering additional talented candidates to fill the remaining open seats on the board, once they are nominated."

Background Information:

On Sept. 25, 2019, the EPW Committee advanced Lemos' nomination at a committee business meeting. The committee held a nomination hearing for Lemos on Sept. 11, 2019.
