Kathy Manning Statement on the Justice in Policing Act
Today, Kathy Manning, Democratic nominee for North Carolina's 6th Congressional District, released the following statement in support of the House Democrat's police reform bill, the Justice in Policing Act.
"This week, House Democrats, led by the Congressional Black Caucus, introduced the most comprehensive police reform package in recent history: the Justice in Policing Act. The Justice in Policing Act would ban chokeholds, establish a national police misconduct registry, overhaul police training standards, end no-knock warrants, limit military-grade weapons in police departments, end qualified immunity, make lynching a federal crime, and combat racial profiling.
"The callous and horrifying murder of George Floyd by a white police office was just one example of the disparate use of police force against members of the Black community. This bill is an important first step to address the institutional inequalities that exist. I stand with House Democrats in support of passing the Justice in Policing Act and I urge the Senate to follow suit."
