Congressman Watkins Applauds DOJ Grant to KBI
Today, Congressman Steve Watkins (KS-02) applauds the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) award of $1,000,000 in grant funding through the COPS Anti-Methamphetamine Program (CAMP) to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to support state-level law enforcement agencies in combating the illegal manufacturing and distribution of methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, carfentanil, and prescription opioids.
Congressman Steve Watkins, issued the following statement:
"Drug addiction tears apart families, ruins lives, and ravages communities. DOJ's announcement to support KBI's efforts to reduce the manufacturing and distribution of illegal drugs in Kansas is a welcome sign for our families and communities who have suffered first hand from the devastating effects of addiction. I am proud to stand with President Trump in supporting our law enforcement officers in their mission to rid our communities of these deadly and addictive drugs."
These state agencies have demonstrated numerous seizures of precursor chemicals, finished methamphetamine, laboratories, and laboratory dump seizures. State agencies are being awarded three years of funding through CAMP to support the location or investigation of illicit activities related to the manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine, including precursor diversion, laboratories, or methamphetamine trafficking.
