Klobuchar Statement Commemorating Juneteenth

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) released the statement below commemorating Juneteenth.

"This Juneteenth, as we celebrate this day that marked the end of slavery, we must also acknowledge the long winding road of justice. Enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas waited more than two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation to receive notice they were free. Sadly, injustice and racism continue to this day -- and for Black Americans, the system has been broken since it was created. It's on us as lawmakers, in the footsteps of the leaders that came before us, to commit to end systemic racism with systemic change. So today, as we honor the centuries-long, ongoing fight to liberate Black Americans, we pledge to continue the fight for true equality and keep paving the road of justice."
