Sen. Cramer: USDA Makes Significant Purchase for a Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccine

U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a 2018 Farm Bill Conference Committee member, issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) making a $27.1 million purchase for a foot-and-mouth disease vaccine for the National Animal Vaccine and Veterinary Countermeasures Bank (NAVVCB) today:

"We put an emphasis on livestock safety and disease prevention when we crafted the 2018 Farm Bill. I am grateful to see Secretary Sonny Perdue and Under Secretary Greg Ibach making strides in implementing the safeguards we authorized to keep foot-and-mouth disease out of the United States."

According to USDA, NAVVCB is one component of a three-part program established by the 2018 Farm Bill to comprehensively support animal disease prevention and management.
