Congressman Tim Ryan Announces $8,259,267 Award to Alta Care Group Head Start

Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today announced a $8,259,267 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to be awarded to Alta Care Group for its Head Start Programs. This grant is part of the Head Start program through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

"Investing in our children is one of the most important things we can do, and that is more important now than ever. As we continue to combat the coronavirus, we must do everything in our power to provide quality care for our children that keeps them safe and healthy," said Congressman Tim Ryan. "I'm proud of the hard work that Alta Care Group does in offering a promising start to so many of our children in Mahoning County."

"Alta Care Group is honored and very proud to be selected by the US Department of Health and Human Services to continue operating the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs for the City of Youngstown and Mahoning County," said Joe Shorokey, CEO of Alta Care Group, Inc. "We are grateful for the ongoing support from the Office of US Representative Tim Ryan and all of our community partners."

Head Start promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of low-income children through the delivery of comprehensive health, educational, nutritional, social, and other services. The funds are budgeted to support the program from through June 30, 2021 and the grant project runs until June 30, 2025.
