West: Now Is Not The Time To Politicize Women's Healthcare

State Sen. Royce West (D-Dallas) on Wednesday called on public officials in Texas to stop politicizing the Coronavirus crisis, particularly with regard to women's healthcare.

West, who is seeking the Democratic Party's nomination to oppose Senator John Cornyn in November, said actions by Texas leaders to restrict women's healthcare choices during the Coronavirus crisis was an unnecessary politicization during what should be a unifying time for Texans.

"This is a time of crisis, and should be a time of unity for all Texans as we work together to fight this disease," said West. "Our citizens and our state leaders must unite to do this together. Adding unnecessary and politically polarizing elements concerning women's healthcare to this mix is wrong," West said.

"I have been on the front lines of the fight for women to be able to make their own healthcare choices for 27 years. We cannot politicize women's healthcare during a global pandemic. Women have always been, and will always be, the best people to determine what to do when it comes to their healthcare choices," West said.

"Right now, Texas women should be worrying about protecting themselves and their loved ones from the Coronavirus disease," West said. "They should not have to worry about the government politicizing their healthcare choices during a global pandemic," he said.
