Mitchell Votes No on Partisan Appropriations Package

Statement

Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement after voting no on the first package of appropriations bills for FY21, H.R. 7608 -- State, Foreign Operations, Agriculture, Rural Development, Interior, Environment, Military Construction, and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act, 2021:

"While this bill includes funding for several priorities I strongly support such as rural broadband development, the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, Asian Carp research, and funding the VA, I ultimately opposed this legislation because of its drastic spending increases and unacceptably partisan policy provisions. This bill overturns the Mexico City Policy, which is a direct attack on pro-life values, and includes language that would undermine efforts to advance sensible regulatory reforms. I am also disappointed this bill fails to adhere to the bipartisan budget caps agreement made last year between both chambers of Congress.

It is my hope these differences can be resolved with the Senate and both sides of the aisle can work together to adopt bipartisan spending bills for the upcoming fiscal year."
