Johnson Announces $1.4 Million in COVID-19 Aid to Support Caddo Head Start Programs

U.S. Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04), a member of President Trump's Task Force for Reopening America, today announced that the Caddo Parish Commission is receiving over $1.4 million to support Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

Head Start and Early Head Start programs offer services to promote school readiness and care to low income families. This grant, authorized under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES Act), will be used to continue these services to support families that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds will be distributed through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

"Head Start programs have filled an important need in our communities by providing meals, health care screenings and pre-K education for children of low-income families. I'm encouraged to see these resources authorized through the CARES Act coming back to our communities to support the needs of local children during these challenging times."

Background: The CARES Act designated $750 million for Head Start programs. Johnson voted in favor of the bill, which was signed into law on March 27.
