Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) today issued the following statement on his vote in favor of the National Origin-Based Antidiscrimination for Non-immigrants (NO BAN) Act, legislation he co-sponsored to stop executive overreach and repeal the President's existing executive order blocking travel from majority Muslim countries.
"It has been three years since the president issued his first Muslim Ban -- a direct attack on families and American values. Today, we took a critical step towards repealing these shameful bans and limiting bans like this in the future. Passage of the NO BAN Act sends a resounding message that religious litmus tests should never determine whether someone is worthy of our compassion. With this vote, we end years of suffering at the hands of the president's Muslim travel bans for countless separated families."

The NO BAN Act repeals several of President Trump's section 212(f)-based executive actions, including the discriminatory Muslim ban and the most recent expansion of the ban announced in January 2020; strengthens the Immigration and Nationality Act to prohibit discrimination based on religion; and reinforces constitutional separation of powers by limiting overly broad executive authority to issue future travel bans.
