U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today supported the men and women in America's armed forces voting in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act. The bill includes millions in funding for Louisiana military bases.

"Louisiana is the proud home of major military bases that play critical roles in our national defense. The NDAA includes authorization for $73 million for enhancements at Barksdale Air Force Base and Fort Polk. This is important funding for the future of these bases and the soldiers, Marines and Airmen who use them," said Dr. Cassidy.

Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier Parish is authorized to receive $48 million for construction of an entrance road and new gate structure. The project will allow base access from Interstate 220 and is part of the base's ultimate plans to build a nearly $300 million weapons storage facility.

Fort Polk is authorized to receive $25 million to build an information systems facility. The base is a joint readiness training center that prepares soldiers for deployment.
