Congressman Lipinski announced on Friday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved almost a half million dollars in grants for first responders in the Third Congressional District including the Bridgeview Fire Department, the McCook Fire Department, the Bedford Park Fire Department and the Chicago Ridge Fire Department. This funding will provide equipment and make upgrades that will help firefighters better protect the health and safety of local residents while also creating greater safety for them as they risk their lives.
The grants from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program will fund:
Bridgeview Fire Department: $75,937 to replace EKG monitors
McCook Fire Department: $168,952 for a new cardiac monitor, a Power Load System, RIT Packs, and SCBA units
Bedford Park Fire Department: $95,238 for an automatic sprinkler system for Fire Station #1
Chicago Ridge Fire Department: $142,500 to replace SCBA units
"It is great to see these federal funds awarded to the Third District's amazing fire departments through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program," Rep. Lipinski said. "I have long supported the AFG program in Congress because I understand how important firefighters and first responders are to our communities. Before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, our firefighters have worked diligently to protect homes, families, businesses, and individuals in our communities. This funding will help ensure departments have much-needed equipment to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic while continuing their heroic work of protecting the people of Illinois' Third Congressional district."
FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program provides fire safety grants that fund needed resources for fire departments. The AFG Program COVID-19 Supplemental also provided funds last month in support of 11 Third District fire departments comprising the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) 21 to purchase needed personal protective equipment.
