Cleaver and Blunt Host Conversation with Community Leaders in Kansas City

Statement

Date: Sept. 1, 2020
Location: Kansas, MO

Today, United States Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) and United States Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) hosted a conversation with community leaders in Kansas City, Missouri. During the conversation, participants discussed a variety of issues such as racial justice, COVID-19, and the economic impact the pandemic has had on Missouri communities.

"As Missourians grapple with the coronavirus and the nation faces a racial reckoning unlike anything seen in decades, it is imperative that we bring Americans together to find solutions that will help move our nation forward, and that all starts with open, honest communication," said Congressman Cleaver. "I want to thank Senator Blunt and everyone who participated in today's discussion for taking the time to talk candidly about some of the most pressing challenges facing Kansas City, Missouri, and the nation today. I look forward to further constructive conversations in the weeks and months ahead."

"I appreciated the opportunity to hear from everyone who participated in today's discussion," said Senator Blunt. "Having their advice and perspective is critically important as we work together to make sure families and communities have what they need to make it through this pandemic. I hope this will be an ongoing conversation about how we can respond to the unrest in the nation by looking at what needs to be done for every person in this country to feel secure -- in terms of their safety, their economic situation, and the opportunities that will be there for them and their children."
