Manchin Opposes Beck Nomination to Consumer Product Safety Commission

Date: Sept. 1, 2020
Location: Charleston, WV

U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) released the following statement on his opposition to Dr. Nancy Beck's nomination to lead the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

"During her time with the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr. Beck worked to undermine essential regulations for toxic Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS). Many West Virginians in Parkersburg, Vienna, and Martinsburg know all too well how dangerous these materials can be. Due to her work at the EPA undermining PFAS regulations I cannot support Dr. Beck's nomination. She has not shown me that she puts the needs of West Virginian and American consumers first, and I urge the Administration to quickly put forward a qualified nominee to fill this important position in a timely fashion."
