Gonzalez Applauds Federal Relief Funds for Children's Hospitals

U.S. Congressman Anthony Gonzalez (OH-16) today applauded the Administration's decision to begin distributing $1.4 billion in relief funds to children's hospitals grappling with financial hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The administration's decision follows a letter lead by Congressmen Gonzalez and Bill Johnson and signed by 89 other members of the U.S. House of Representatives urging the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to direct additional funds to these in-need institutions.
"Children's hospitals provide lifesaving care and groundbreaking research for children and families across the country, and their work during the COVID-19 pandemic has played an integral role in our communities." said Congressman Gonzalez. "I am glad to see the administration allocate additional emergency relief funds to our children's hospitals to help ensure these institutions can continue serving our kids."
"Today's announcement that the Trump administration will be distributing additional relief funds to children's hospitals is great news," Congressman Johnson said. "It is imperative that during COVID-19 these hospitals are still able to continue their critical role in caring for children with the most complex medical challenges. These institutions did everything asked of them under state and federal guidelines to combat COVID, resulting in major revenue declines. We owe this help to them, so they can keep caring for the most vulnerable among us."
Since the pandemic began in March, children's hospitals have played an essential role in fighting COVID-19 by providing testing services, stockpiling personal protective equipment, cancelling non-essential services, and transforming their facilities to care for children and adult COVID patients. As a result, America's children's hospitals have been significantly impacted financially and experienced declines in revenue upwards of 40 percent. Additional federal relief funds will help these hospitals stay afloat and continue to provide critical care to children and families.
