Location: St. Marys, GA
Issues: Defense

Reps. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) and Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-Ga.) yesterday toured the U.S. Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay in St. Marys, Georgia. During the visit, they met with the Commanding Officer, Captain Chester Parks, and toured both the dry dock construction project and a submarine.

"Kings Bay is an integral part of our nation's strategic defense system and it was an honor to tour their base yesterday," Collins said. "As a Navy veteran and a current chaplain in the Air Force Reserves, I understand the need for military readiness on our nation's shores and am thankful for the sacrifice our men and women in uniform make to keep Americans safe daily."

"Kings Bay plays an indispensable role in our nation's national security. It's always an honor to visit the base and see the dedication of the sailors firsthand," Carter said. "I'm very glad my good friend and colleague Rep. Doug Collins could join us today as we work to secure future missions and improvements at the base in Congress."

The U.S. Navy has called Kings Bay home since 1978 and currently houses five Ohio-class submarines and two guided missile submarines, the USS Florida and the USS Georgia.
