Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón announced a total of $ 5,996,198 for university institutions on the island under the federal Student Support Services programs and the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program.

Under the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program, the University of Puerto Rico at Aguadilla will receive $ 232,570, and the Ana G. Mendez University, Gurabo Campus, $ 226,669.

On the other hand, under the Student Support Services Program, the University of Puerto Rico in Arecibo received $ 366,187, Inter-American University of Puerto Rico in Aguadilla, $ 367,635, Inter-American University of Puerto Rico in Barranquitas $ 261,888; University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras, $ 438,714; University of Puerto Rico at Humacao, $ 414,828; Adventist University of the Antilles, $ 523,776; American University in Puerto Rico, $ 261,888; University of the Sacred Heart, $ 944,083; San Juan University College, $ 385,424; Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico, $ 878,712; and Universidad Ana G. Mendez-Gurabo Campus, $ 345,825.

The Ana G. Mendez University in Cupey under this same program received $ 347,999, which will be available to the institution from the year 2022.

The Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program helps institutions with predominantly minority enrollments make long-term improvements in science and engineering education programs and increase the flow of minorities, particularly women and ethnicity, into science and engineering careers.

The Student Support Services Program are competitive grants through which funds are awarded to institutions of higher education to provide opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and motivate students toward successful completion. of your postsecondary education.

This program is one of 8 federal programs under TRIO, designed to identify and provide services to people from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs designed to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and people with disabilities.
