Rutherford Applauds President Trump's Drilling Ban

Press Release

Date: Sept. 8, 2020
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Oil and Gas

Today, Congressman Rutherford applauds President Donald Trump's announcement that the United States will officially close federal waters off the coast of Florida to offshore drilling through 2032.

"I thank the president for protecting our waters, military readiness, and coastal economy," said Rutherford. "Today's announcement is thanks to bipartisan teamwork by the entire Florida delegation. Since coming to Congress, I have advocated tirelessly for extending and expanding the federal moratorium on offshore drilling, including my introduction of the bipartisan BEACHES in Florida Act to close all Florida waters to drilling for ten years."

The existing federal moratorium on offshore drilling in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico was scheduled to expire in 2022. The president's actions extend this moratorium for ten years and expand it to include the South Atlantic and Straits of Florida.
