Rep. Cuellar's Statement on President Trump Walking Away From Coronavirus Relief

Statement

Date: Oct. 6, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) released the following statement after President Trump announced he was ending coronavirus relief talks over Twitter:

"President Trump is holding hostage the lives and livelihoods of American families. He is letting down the frontline workers, such as our doctors, nurses, teachers, sanitation, food workers and farmers, who have sacrificed so much. Where is the great deal maker during this crisis?

"Immediate action is needed to save lives and avert further economic devastation from the coronavirus pandemic. That's why my colleagues in the House and I have passed countless bills to help our country recover, including the updated Heroes Act just last week. The updated Heroes Act addresses the urgent needs of our local governments, families, schools, small business and restaurants while also reflecting bipartisanship and compromise.

"More than 210,000 Americans have died, over 7.5 million have been infected, and about 30 million are out of work. We must put politics aside and come back to the negotiating table. The American people cannot wait much longer."
