Heinrich Statement On Court Ruling Removing William Perry Pendley As Head Of Bureau Of Land Management

Statement

Date: Sept. 25, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, issued the following statement after a federal judge in Montana ruled that William Perry Pendley is illegally heading the Bureau of Land Management:

"President Trump made a big mistake when he appointed William Perry Pendley to lead the agency that oversees 250 million acres of public lands. Pendley has made it his life's work to sell off, give away, and exploit our forests, mountains, grasslands and open spaces we love. Thankfully, a federal judge has ruled his acting position is patently illegitimate."

Senator Heinrich has been an ardent opponent of President Donald Trump's destructive record on the environment and led the entire Senate Democratic Caucus in a call for the removal of William Perry Pendley from his "acting" leadership role at the BLM.
