WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY17/Rockland-Westchester), Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee, today announced the Rockland Board Of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) has been awarded $1,015,160 from the Department of Justice (DOJ) FY 2020 Strategies To Support Children Exposed to Violence program. The federal grant will be used by Rockland BOCES to expand critically important services to children who have been unjustly exposed to violence in their families and communities.
"Protecting and caring for children should always be a top priority," said Congresswoman Lowey. "This additional funding will be critical to helping children who have been exposed to violence and guiding them through what can be a very difficult time. I am proud that we can provide this level of support to our most vulnerable and continue to do everything in our power to help them on a path toward a bright future."
This grant will support the already successful Rockland BOCES Partnership for Safe and Healthy Youth which provides struggling children and teenagers with a strong, stable support system for their future success.
Rockland BOCES Chief Operating Officer Dr. Mary Jean Marsico said, "This funding award is evidence that the Partnership for Safe and Healthy Youth is a model program, worthy of recognition and support. We are grateful to U.S. Congresswoman Nita Lowey and the U.S. Department of Justice for seeing the value in our innovative and effective work of engaging youth and families to break the cycle of violence in our community. This $1 million grant represents an important step in meeting the ever-growing need for behavioral health support services for children and teens in Rockland County."
Congresswoman Lowey has consistently fought on behalf children and the most vulnerable. In July, as Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee, Congresswoman Lowey led the House in the passage of a fiscal year 2021 spending package that includes $94.5 million for Missing and Exploited Children programs.
