SCHOHARIE, NY -- This morning, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) released the following statement two years after a limousine crash killed 20 New York residents on October 6, 2018:

"Two years ago, our upstate community suffered a devastating loss when a limousine crash in Schoharie killed 20 individuals. Today, my heart is with the families of the victims who have turned their pain and grief into a powerful tool to advocate for change. We also owe a profound debt of gratitude to our community first responders who rushed to the scene and live with the pain of their experiences every day," said Rep. Delgado. "Now, it is incumbent upon our government to honor the lives of those we lost with action. This summer, because of the bravery and conviction of the family members who lost their loved ones two years ago, the House moved legislation to take unsafe limos off the road and improve passenger safety. I will continue to call on the Senate to pass these bipartisan bills with urgently needed reforms."

One year ago, Rep. Antonio Delgado, Rep. Paul Tonko, and Senator Chuck Schumer joined family members of the victims to introduce comprehensive legislation to improve limousine safety. Their bipartisan package is made up of three bills: Rep. Delgado's End the Limo Loophole Act, as well as Rep. Tonko's Take Unsafe Limos Off the Road Act, and the SAFE Limos Act. All three of these measures passed the House in July as part of H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act.
