Today, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) responded to the recent conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh and encouraged Azerbaijan and Armenia to work towards reaching peace.

McCarthy released the following statement:

"The recent violence in Nagorno-Karabakh is upsetting, and sadly, many innocent lives have been lost in this escalation. I encourage the United States to remain committed to helping Azerbaijan and Armenia work towards stability to achieve a peaceful settlement to the conflict.

"I call upon both countries to implement their agreed-upon ceasefire to find a path forward that will ensure that innocent civilian lives are protected.

"This is a time when the entire House of Representatives should go on the record to encourage a peaceful solution in the region. I understand the Democrats are working on language to that end, but have not yet come to an agreement. I urge Speaker Pelosi to immediately put language forward so the whole House can push for a peaceful end to this pressing issue."
