Pallone on California v. Texas Supreme Court Hearing

Statement

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today ahead of oral arguments in California v. Texas, a Republican lawsuit that seeks to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA):

"The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments today in a lawsuit brought by Republicans and supported by the Trump Administration that seeks to strike down the ACA in its entirety even as the nation records over 10 million COVID-19 infections and the virus surges across the country.

"The stakes could not be higher. If the Supreme Court overturns the ACA, tens of millions of Americans will lose their health coverage and up to 130 million Americans will lose protections for pre-existing conditions overnight.

"In the middle of a national health crisis, we should be working together to crush the virus, supporting our frontline health care workers, and passing legislation to lower consumers' health care and prescription drug costs. Instead, Republicans remain fixated on repealing the largest expansion of health coverage and patient protections in a generation more than a decade after it was signed into law.

"Make no mistake, the health and wellbeing of the American people is at stake today."
