Rep. Paul Mitchell (MI-10), a member of the House Armed Services Committee Future of Defense Task Force, released the following statement upon the release of the task force's final report. The bipartisan Future of Defense Task Force was chartered to review U.S. defense assets and capabilities and assess the state of the national security innovation base to meet emerging threats:
"The United States faces a critical moment in adapting our defense capabilities for the 21st century. We must ensure we are best equipped for next-generation threats to our national security in order to properly deter adversaries, and our resources must be strategically allocated to meet the needs of the future. This requires long-term thinking about all aspects of our defense, and a whole-of-nation approach is essential for harnessing American ingenuity to maintain our strategic superiority.
Over the past year, the Future of Defense Task Force thoroughly examined these issues and today we released our report that outlines what we've learned and makes several recommendations. I am proud to have been part of this task force whose work can serve as a roadmap for our national security community and the American people. It is critical Congress continue these types of bipartisan efforts to ensure American leadership into the next century."
