U.S. Rep. Lawrence Issues Statement on Undemocratic Efforts to Overturn Michigan Election Results

Statement

Date: Nov. 20, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) issued the following statement after a controversial voting process by the Wayne County Board of Canvassers in their efforts to block the certification of Wayne County's vote in the 2020 Presidential election, further suppressing the vote of thousands of minority and underrepresented voters. President Trump is now set to meet with Michigan State Legislators today, after summoning them to the White House, to further discuss the state's election results.

"The attempt to overturn the certification of Michigan's election results, specifically in Wayne County, is a blatant act of racism and disregard for our democracy. Michiganders have cast their ballots, the votes have been counted, and the American people have elected Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States. This is yet another desperate attempt by President Trump to silence the Black vote, and we will not allow him to take away Michiganders' constitutional right."
