Press Release

Date: Nov. 19, 2020
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

Today, Rep. Xochitl Torres Small (NM-02), member of the House Armed Service Committee, was named as a FY2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) conferee following a nomination from the House Homeland Security Committee to the conference committee. The fifty-three-member group of House conferees will meet with their Senate counterparts to ensure the passage of the annual defense bill and consolidate remaining differences between the two versions of the NDAA passed by the respective chambers earlier this year.

"New Mexico's military installations play a key role in our country's national defense and it's our job to make sure our bases and service members across the country get the support and resources they need to carry out their missions. I am proud of the bipartisan work in the House to pass this year's national defense bill and I aim to bring that same spirit as we negotiate remaining differences. I am honored to serve as a conferee and welcome the opportunity to work with my Senate colleagues on one of the most consequential bills Congress passes every year," said Torres Small.

Along with Torres Small's measures, the House version of the FY21 NDAA includes provisions to support our troops and military families, such as a 3.0 percent pay increase for our service men and women.
