Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today issued the following statement on President-elect Joe Biden's nomination of Deanne Criswell to serve as the Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator. Leader Schumer previously supported Ms. Criswell's nomination for FEMA's National Advisory Council:

"Deanne Criswell is an outstanding choice for FEMA administrator because she brings years of accomplished federal and state emergency management experience to this critical position. She is a dedicated public servant and an adept manager and will be instrumental in helping this country respond to and recover from the crises caused by the coronavirus pandemic. As our nation faces down the climate crisis, an experienced climate champion like Deanne Criswell as FEMA administrator puts our nation in a stronger place to mitigate and respond to increasingly severe natural disasters. Ms. Criswell is the first woman nominated to serve as administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and I am proud to support her historic appointment. I look forward to working with Ms. Criswell to ensure that the nation is prepared to respond to all future disasters."
