Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga, who serves as Co-Chair of the Great Lakes Task Force in the U.S. House of Representatives, released the following statement after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced an agreement to protect the Great Lakes from Asian carp by providing early phase funding for the Brandon Road Lock and Dam Project.

"Today's announcement is a significant step forward in the effort to protect the Great Lakes from Asian carp," said Congressman Bill Huizenga, Co-Chair of the House Great Lakes Task Force. "Michigan and Illinois have stepped up to provide the financial resources required to support this phase of the Brandon Road Project. Congress has provided funding in the FY 2021 appropriations bill for projects, such as Brandon Road, which are in the pre-construction, engineering, and design phase. It is critical that funding for Brandon Road be included in the 2021 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers work plan to protect the Great Lakes and move the project to its next steps."
