Date: Jan. 25, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement after voting to confirm Janet Yellen as Secretary of the Treasury:

"America is facing the dual crises of COVID-19 and economic uncertainty. The next Secretary of the Treasury must leverage our nation's financial infrastructure to help small business owners, provide assistance to state and local governments, and help Americans recover and rebuild.

"Secretary Yellen highly-qualified and highly-respected on both sides of the aisle. As the former head of both the Federal Reserve and the White House Council of Economic Advisers, Secretary Yellen is well versed in engaging different tools to stimulate the U.S. economy. I look forward to working closely with Secretary Yellen to ensure that New Mexico's economic recovery is at the forefront of Treasury's priorities."
